Transform your lawn into a thriving pollinator habitat with Prairie Legacy’s Native No Mow Bee Lawn Mix. Developed in Saline County, Nebraska, this unique blend of native wildflowers is designed for sunny to partially shaded areas and provides an attractive, low-growing alternative to traditional turf grass.
The species in this mix typically grow between 6 and 12 inches tall under most conditions, creating a natural landscape that requires minimal mowing. While the planting can be left unmowed, the species included also tolerate mowing well if a more manicured appearance is desired. In fact, a midsummer mowing can help rejuvenate certain species and encourage renewed growth and flowering.
Composed entirely of native plants, this mix provides valuable nectar and pollen resources for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators while maintaining a lawn-like appearance. Some species require a period of cold temperatures before germination, making late fall or winter seeding ideal for best results.
Patience is important when establishing a native planting. While some species may emerge quickly, optimum establishment typically occurs within two to three years as the planting matures and fills in.
